Hon. Tugendhat: Civil Liberties and Fundamental Rights in England

Hon. Mr. Justice Sir Michael Tugendhat of Her Majesty's High Court of Justice, Queen's Court Division, England. Mr. Justice Tugendhat is also a member of the St. Thomas More Society in London. He discussed the development of human rights in common law, including the historical origin of human rights from the middle ages to present time (the recognition of human rights in case law and English and colonial statutes, a comparison of English human rights laws with those of the United States, and the enforcement of human rights laws), the role of the European Court of Human Rights and European Union law in England, and the relationship in England between the judiciary and the legislature.

This course has been approved for Minimum CLE credit by the State Barof Texas Committee on MCLE in the amount of 1.0 credit hours. The non-member price for attending programs for MCLE credit is $10.
